I am admittedly a hard marker on many things. Tracy McGrady, to me, shouldn’t be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. I don’t think Terrell Davis and Kurt Warner are Hall of Famers, either. And by the way, “Takeover” is better than “Ether.”

Based on the results of an Owls247 poll, I feel confident saying a good amount of FAU fans are not hard markers.

At the time this story went up, 35% of voters (including myself) believed eight to nine wins — which I’m assuming would be 8–4 or 9–3, not 8–5 or 9–4 — would mean FAU had a successful season. Another 29% felt the team needs to have a top-3 finish in Conference USA. That’s a fairly lofty goal, but I respect the ambition.

Then, there’s the 31% who would be content with six or seven wins and a bowl game.

Let’s be objective. FAU is less than a year away from headed to the American Athletic Conference, a “Power 6” league. The Owls have won two of the last five Conference USA titles. FAU owns a 37-24 record since 2017, with two 11-win seasons in…
